Falling in Love with Northern Italy: A Romantic Adventure from Milan to Venice

If you’re itching to travel again after months of lockdown, Northern Italy should be high on your list of must-visit destinations. It’s brimming with culture, history, and delicious food – everything you need to rekindle your love for travel. Just ask Saul Schwartz, who recently took his wife Fern on a romantic European adventure to fall in love with the continent all over again.

Of all the places to explore in Northern Italy, Milan, Florence, Pisa, and Venice are some of the most popular and breathtaking cities. Saul and Fern planned their trip carefully, making sure they could see everything they wanted to in less than two weeks.

First on their itinerary was Milan, a city known for its fashion, art, and architecture. They spent three days here, marveling at the Gothic cathedral, wandering along the elegant shopping streets, and dining in some of the best restaurants. Saul recommends starting your day with a coffee and croissant at Pasticceria Marchesi, followed by a visit to the iconic Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II.

Next up was Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. Saul and Fern spent four days here, exploring the Uffizi Gallery, climbing the dome of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, and walking over the Ponte Vecchio. They also indulged in gelato from La Carraia – a local favorite – and sampled Chianti wine in the charming wine bars.

Then it was time for a quick stop in Pisa to check out the world-famous Leaning Tower. Saul and Fern snapped some photos and enjoyed the atmosphere before heading on to their final destination – Venice.

Once in Venice, the couple was blown away by the beauty of the city’s canals and bridges. They took an enchanting gondola ride, visited St. Mark’s Basilica, and discovered the hidden alleyways of the city’s many neighborhoods. Saul says the best way to end a day in Venice is with an aperitivo – a pre-dinner drink and snack – at one of the many waterfront bars.

Saul and Fern’s Northern Italian adventure may have been a whirlwind, but they managed to fit in all of their must-sees and must-dos in just under two weeks. If you’re planning a trip to Northern Italy, take a page out of their book and plan ahead to make the most of your time in these beautiful cities. You won’t regret it.
