Gyula’s eyes are always on the beach in Tihany

Gyula’s eyes are always on the beach in Tihany

The saying goes that your neighbour’s grass is always greener, but there’s one place where this theory is certainly disproved. On the northern shore of Lake Balaton, there’s a 13-hectare area where, even in the hottest weather, drops of water glisten on the soft, lush, green lawn. All this is thanks to the care of Gyula Bartha, who, as Club Tihany’s beach manager, is responsible not only for the well-kept park and its cleanliness, but also for safety.

Gyula Bartha has been working as the beach manager at Club Tihany for six years, where he walks 12 to 15 kilometres a day, checking everything to make sure it is clean and tidy. He oversees the whole bathing area, including the playgrounds, children’s pools, diving pools, stairs, stairways, water slides and makes sure they are working properly. He also puts the buoys in the water and makes sure the pier is safely in place for the summer season.

One of the secrets to maintaining the 13 acres of lush lawns is the irrigation system, which is the heart and soul of the lawn’s beauty. Gyula Bartha, who used to work as an agricultural engineer, believes that the sight and feel of a beautiful lawn is part of the comfort of guests.

Gyula Bartha is in daily contact with hotel staff and guests. He knows the regulars, who welcome him and often ask him about trips. Gyula is happy to tell them where to go.
Gyula Bartha advises families with children not to miss the dotto train, which takes them to the most exciting sights of Tihany, and recommends visiting the Abbey, the Panoptikum and the Inner Lake when they arrive in the village.

Gyula is himself a grandfather of three, so he considers it particularly important that children have a good time and feel safe in Tihany. Every day, he checks that everything is in order at the 55-metre long, 5-metre high water slide, which is a great favourite with the children.

Gyula is also very serious about safety, making sure everything is in order in challenging and unexpected situations, especially during storms. He always keeps an eye on the course and as soon as he detects an impending downpour, he immediately sends everyone away from Lake Balaton.

Although it is only 10 degrees on Lake Balaton right now, the real summer preparations will begin in the coming weeks. Two designated fishing spots are already in place, two stairs are being laid and the jetty will be put in place in the next few days.

Gyula loves Tihany, he says Lake Balaton is everything to him. But he does not live here, but in Mezőtúr. But only until the Balaton season, because in April he will move his headquarters to the northern shore of the Hungarian sea, and will only visit his home once a month. However, he is not idle after the season is over.
„I’m also an art historian and I have a gallery, so when I return to the Great Plain, I organise exhibitions. I also have a collection of two or three hundred paintings” – says.
