Hotel animators: making family holidays relaxing and fun

Hotel animators: making family holidays relaxing and fun

For many parents, a family holiday can feel like another week of work, with the kids’ entertainment thrown in for good measure. But thanks to hotel animators, this doesn’t have to be the case. These enthusiastic young people, often college or university students, are employed by family-friendly hotels to keep children entertained and parents relaxed and recharged.

Hotel animators are more than just babysitters; they keep children entertained and active, whether it’s through sports games, craft activities or nature walks. And because they work on the hotel grounds, parents can be sure their children are nearby and well looked after.

In some hotels, animators even have helpers, like the water fairy and forest elves in Tihany. These magical creatures make the children’s experience even more exciting and wonderful, helping them to learn about nature and the environment while having fun.

Taking care of children is rewarding but also a responsibility, plus they face unexpected challenges in an ever-changing environment with new guests every week.

The animators’ rota is designed to work on a rotational basis, with every other night off. This is essential to allow the animators to recharge, maintain their energy levels and stay enthusiastic and engaged throughout the summer.

Being an animator is not just a summer job, it’s a way of life. This is especially true on Lake Balaton, where young people who work as animators often return year after year to relive memories and share their experiences with a new generation of children.

Animation sessions typically involve sports and craft activities such as a bubble party, board games and mini-disco. They are aimed at children aged four to five and older, but parents are also welcome to join in the fun and make memories together.

Sustainability is an increasingly important trend in the hospitality industry and hotels are looking for ways to encourage children to adopt greener habits. One way to reduce food waste is to use a token system. Children who eat everything they choose can receive a token which they can then redeem for small gifts in the hot kitchen.
